Questions, problems, or anything that looks wrong

Need a hand? Email support@legallightapp.com.

We are a small operation, so replies may take a day or two, but every email gets read. When something is not working, it helps if you include your iPhone model, your iOS version, and what you were doing when it went wrong. A screenshot is worth a lot.

Frequently asked questions

What is Legal Light?

An iPhone app that helps you find hunting gear suited to the way you hunt, then keeps an eye on the price. You answer five questions about your hunt, we match gear against those answers, and you can add anything to a watchlist to be told when it drops.

How do the recommendations work?

Your answers cover species, region, season, terrain and budget. We score products against those answers using a separate set of rules for each category, so boots are judged on different things than optics are. Every recommendation comes with a short note explaining why it made your list, and each category has a buyer's guide covering what tends to matter most.

Nothing is paid placement. Products are scored against your hunt profile and nothing else.

Can I have more than one set of recommendations?

Yes. Hunt profiles are separate, so you can keep one for a late-season whitetail hunt and another for an early elk trip, and switch between them. Your watchlist is shared across all of them.

Which brands and retailers do you cover?

We are starting with hunting apparel and gear from a small number of retailers rather than trying to cover everything at once. The app is in early testing and the catalogue is deliberately small while we get the recommendations right. It will grow.

How current are the prices?

Legal Light is in testing, so treat prices in the app as a guide rather than gospel, and check the retailer's own page before you buy. The Buy button always takes you to the live product page, which is the authoritative price.

How do price alerts work?

Add an item to your watchlist and pick how big a discount you care about, from 10% to 30% below MSRP. The app shows an item as "firing" once it reaches your target. You can change the threshold, pause an alert without losing the item, or remove it, from the Edit Alert screen.

Why do you show price history?

Because a discount only means something if you know what the item normally sells for. Each product has a price history chart with a typical price range, so you can judge whether a drop is genuinely a good moment to buy.

Can I track something I found myself?

You can paste a product link and we will try to match it. Right now that only works for items already in our catalogue, so many links will not resolve yet. The app tells you when that happens. This gets better as the catalogue grows.

Do you make money from this?

Not currently. Legal Light may join retailer affiliate programs in the future, which would mean we earn a commission when you buy through a link in the app, at no extra cost to you. It would not change which products we recommend or how they are ranked, and we would say so clearly.

Is my data safe?

We collect the minimum needed to run your account and watchlist: your email, your hunt profiles and your watchlist items. No analytics, no advertising, no location tracking, and we do not sell your data. The full detail is in our privacy policy.

I signed in with Apple and hid my email. Is that a problem?

Not at all. We only ever see Apple's private relay address, and everything works normally.

How do I delete my account?

Email support@legallightapp.com from the address on your account and ask. We will delete your account, your hunt profiles and your watchlist.

Is there an Android version?

Not yet. Legal Light is iPhone only for now.

How do I get the app?

It is in private testing at the moment, so there is no public download yet. Join the list on the home page and we will email you when it opens up.

The app says it cannot reach the server.

Usually a connection problem on your end, so it is worth checking your signal or Wi-Fi and trying again. If it keeps happening, email us and say roughly when it started.

Still stuck?

Email support@legallightapp.com and tell us what happened. We would rather hear about a problem than have you quietly give up on it.
